Abbott Elementary recently hit UK shores, and it’s pure gold! A ‘mockumentary’ following a group of teachers at an underfunded school in Philadelphia, it’s charming, absolutely hilarious and just sheer joy. We binged the whole season in a couple of days and I am obsessed!
With Season 2 slated to release in Autumn, here are some reasons why it’s a gem of a show:
- It’s the perfect 20+ mins, easy-after-work, feel-good watch
- Full of dry humour, it’s also unexpectedly warm and sweet
- The teachers truly care about the students, each in their own cute way
- Created by legend Quinta Brunson, it’s effortlessly ethnic and relatable
- Janine and her selfless but ill-advised antics
- Classy Barbara and her putdowns that somehow feel wholesome. Like Janine I want her to be my ‘mom-mentor’
- The absolute chaos that is Principal Ava
- Melissa and her Mafia energy – she will get things done by hook or by crook (mostly crook but hey, it get’s done)
- Jacob and moments like this:
- The adorable scenes with the kids and the gentle but real commentary on underfunded schools
- The janitor who gives strong ethnic ‘Uncle’ vibes
- And Gregory. *heart eyes* Truly fulfilling all the kdrama romantic lead feels (but for a black girl!!! ah! no struggle-love just pure swoon!)
It’s became an instant favourite for us, and I’m so excited we get another season!
