I think many of us will have seen the Israeli settler leaders visiting the UAE during Ramadan, on an official invite which (for some bizarre reason) included an iftar. You can read more at Middle East Eye but shocking optics aside, I haven’t been able to stop thinking about it. While a small drop in the ocean of oppression happening, it reminded me of this ayah in Surah Ala-Imran that I recently learned:

“Indeed, those who trade Allah’s covenant and their oaths for a fleeting gain will have no share in the Hereafter. Allah will neither speak to them, nor look at them, nor purify them on the Day of Judgment. And they will suffer a painful punishment.”
(translation: Dr. Mustafa Khattab, The Clear Quran)
Allah (SWT)’s words while chilling, gave me comfort. Even though we feel powerless and helpless – watching Israel freely burn the world down with the genocide in Palestine, the bombing of Iran, Lebanon, Syria (AND its got fingers in the atrocities in the Congo and Sudan!) cruelest of all has been seeing the ‘Muslim leaders’ proudly supporting the regime. It’s one thing to remain silent but to actively engage? How ruthless. But lest we forget, Allah (SWT) sees all, and warns us that there is a special reckoning for the people who betray Him.
Do you remember this visit happening? Or has it been lost to the haze of all the relentlessly horrifying events that keep happening these few months? Rumours of World War 3 notwithstanding . . .
That’s all for now!
